I purchased my Seagate FreeAgent Go from Challenger (Funan IT Mall)  for SGD $165.00. So its true that its not the most inexpensive portable hard drive around – but when you weigh it all up I think its fairly priced. The key for me, is that you get a quality product with a company who is willing to stand by it, with its 5 year warranty period.

So, what did i notice right off the bat? The packaging is built like Fort Knox. You practically have to use the jaws of life to get your hands on this little baby! After wrestling with the plastic casing I was enamored at how nice the casing felt, it was smooth enough to rub against my cheek and say goo-goo ga-ga.

I yanked out the USB cable and tossed the instruction booklet into the rubbish bin. The software comes preloaded on the drive and it self installed in about a minute – which included filling in my product registration details online and installing the Seagate Manager application. During the installation the Drive lit up and began to purr like a kitten. Good Kitty…

The Seagate Manager software that comes with the FreeAgent Go is very nice – it allows you to setup the drive in different ways:

  • Backup – where you can select certain folders (My Documents) or file types to backup daily or weekly at 12pm Sundays, for example.
  • Sync – Allows you to syncronise all files in a specific folder.
  • Encrypt – Allows you to encrypt folders and place a password on the drive for those important files. You know, the ones you need to keep away from prying eyes…

This application is Great! Its easy to use, intuitive and feature rich.

In summary, and in comparison to my puny WD 250 GB external drive – the Seagate FreeAgent Go is Awesome – It’s sleek, light, has cool factor and it melds form with function perfectly. Quick! GO out and get yours today!
